SSC CGL Notification 2023: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are required to satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria as per the SSC CGL Notification to apply for the SSC CGL Exam. The official notification contains all details about the required eligibility criteria. Only the candidates fulfilling all the eligibility criteria will be issued the SSC CGL Admit Card. Provided below is the eligibility criteria for the SSC CGL Exam 2023.

SSC CGL 2023 Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

SSC CGL 2023- Educational Qualifications

  • The candidate must have attained a bachelor’s degree in any of the disciplines at the time of registration.
  • The degree-providing institute/organization must be recognized by the Govt of India.

SSC CGL 2023- Age Limit

  • The candidate must be aged between 18 to 27 years to apply for the SSC CGL Exam.
  • However, relaxations are provided in the upper age limit for the candidates belonging to the reserved categories.

The candidates can register on the SSC official website using the steps provided below.

Step 1: First of all, visit the official website of SSC at ssc.nic.in.

Step 2: On the SSC homepage, find and click on the ‘New User Registration’ button.

Step 3: The SSC registration page will appear on your screen, fill in all the details required in the form.

Step 4: Make sure to check the details twice or thrice before submitting. After filling in the personal details, enter your email address and mobile number and verify the same through OTP.

Step 5: Complete the registration by making a new password. Save your registration number for future references.

How to fill in SSC CGL Application Form 2023?

After registering, the candidates can apply for the SSC CGL Exam by logging in using their login credentials. One can apply for the SSC CGL Exam 2023 by performing the following steps.

  • Step 1: On the SSC Homepage, enter your login credentials, solve the captcha, and press on login.
  • Step 2: After logging in, head towards the Apply Now button and click on the SSC CGL under the exams tab.
  • Step 3: On the SSC CGL Exam tab, find and click on the apply now button.
  • Step 4: The SSC CGL Exam Application Form will be available on the screen, fill in all the required details and choose your exam center.
  • Step 5: Scrutinize the details twice or thrice after entering as SSC will not entertain any changes after final submission.
  • Step 6: Upload your photograph and signature as per the SSC norms.

The application fee for General/OBC canddidates is INR 100 and SC/ST/Ex-Serviceman/Females are exempted. SSC CGL Notification 2023: Selection Process

SSC CGL 2023 Selection Process comprises multiple stages. The SSC CGL Exam is conducted in two stages: Tier 1 and Tier 2.

  • Tier-I: Computer Based Examination
  • Tier-II: Computer Based Examination
    • Tier-II will include conducting of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III in separate shift(s)/ day(s). Paper-I is compulsory for all the posts whereas Paper-II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
    • Paper-III will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.
    • Paper-I will be conducted in two sessions – Session–I & Session II, on the same day. Session-I will include conducting Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III. Session II will include conducting Module II of Section-III. Therefore, the duration of Session-I will be 2 hours and 15 minutes and the duration of Session-II will be 15 minutes only.
    • There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.
    • Candidates eligible for scribe will get an extra 20 minutes for 1 hour time.
    • Paper-I is compulsory for all the posts. It will be mandatory for the candidates to qualify all the sections of Paper-I. Paper-I will include following three sections having two modules each.

SSC CGL 2023 comprises of two tiers. Tier I is mainly screening and scoring exams. Tier II is the merit-deciding Tier.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

The SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam is conducted in an online mode in which candidates have to report to the assigned examination centre. The Tier 1 exam is an objective type Computer Based Test (CBT) that is conducted in online mode. Certain quick facts about the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam are mentioned below.

  • The Tier 1 exam is conducted in online mode where candidates will be allotted computer systems on which they will attempt their exam.
  • The type of question will be multiple choice in which four options will be provided and candidates will have to choose one correct answer.
  • The question paper will be bilingual in which the questions will be written in both Hindi and English. Only in the English section, the questions will not be bilingual.
  • The Tier 1 exam has 4 sections namely Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude & English Language.
  • Each section consists of 25 questions and every correct answer will award 2 marks to candidates. On the contrary, every incorrect answer will lead to a deduction of 0.50 marks.
  • There is no sectional cut off. The marks will be calculated on an aggregate basis for Tier 1.

The aspirants must note that there is no penalty for unattempted questions. If they are not sure of the correct answer, it is advisable to not attempt the questions instead of going with the wrong answer which can lead to deduction of marks. To get shortlisted for Tier 2, candidates need to qualify SSC CGL Cutoff of Tier 1. The cut off is released soon after the successful conduction of the examination. SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern (Revised)

The detailed SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam pattern is provided below:

  • Note-A: There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.
  • Note-B: Candidates eligible for scribe will get an extra 20 minutes for 1 hour time.
  • Note-C: Paper-I is compulsory for all the posts. Paper-II for only JSO Post and Paper-III is for only Assistant Account Officer and Assistant Audit officer.
  • Note-D: Tier-II will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions except for DEST Test.

  • Note-III: DEST will be mandatory for all the posts; however it will be qualifying in nature.
  • Note-IV: It will be mandatory for the candidates to qualify all the sections of Paper-I.

SSC CGL Tier-II Paper 2 Exam Pattern

For the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
