Merit List

SSC CGL Merit List

The SSC CGL merit list is prepared on the basis of candidates’ overall performance in all the stages of the SSC CGL exam i.e, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. Once the candidate is allotted his/her preferred post as per his/her merit, he/she is not considered for any other post further. Thus, candidates are advised to mark their preference for posts very carefully while filling out the application form. The option/ preference once exercised by the candidate will be considered final and irreversible. Any request for change of allocation/ service by candidates will not be entertained by the commission under any circumstances/ reasons.

The final allotment of posts is done on the basis of merit-cum-preferences of Posts/Departments marked by candidates. Once a post or department is allotted to a candidate, the Commission will not make any changes in the allotted post due to non-fulfillment of any post-specific requirements of physical/ medical/ educational standards. For instance, if a candidate has given a higher preference for a post and is selected for that post but he/ she fails to meet the medical/ physical/ educational standards for that post, in that case, his/her candidature will be rejected and the candidate will not be considered for any other post.

SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM, and PwD candidates who are selected on their own merit without relaxed standards, will not be adjusted against the reserved share of vacancies. Such candidates will be appointed against the general/ unreserved vacancies in the post as per their position in the overall merit or vacancies earmarked for their category, whichever is advantageous to them. The reserved vacancies will be filled up separately amongst the eligible SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM, and PwD candidates.

Score Normalization

SSC CGL Normalization of Score

The number of candidates applying/appearing for SSC CGL is more hence the exam is conducted in multiple shifts. In order to avoid discrepancies in online exams, the authorities use the normalization process to calculate the marks of the candidates. These normalized marks are used to decide the cutoff of the candidates.

Marks scored by candidates in Computer Based Examinations, if conducted in multiple shifts, will be normalized by using the formula published by the Commission vide Notice No: 1-1/2018-P&P-I dated 07-02-2019 and such normalized scores will be used to determine final merit and cutoff marks.

SSC has not specified any particular formula that is used in the normalisation of scores. Thus, it is expected that it follows the frequently-used formulas in exams conducted over multiple shifts.
