What is SSC CGL Exam?

SSC CGL Stands for Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Examination. It is conducted nationwide to recruit graduates for Ministries, the Department of Indian Government, and Subordinate Offices. SSC CGL is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for different Group B and Group C posts.

  • SSC CGL Salary ranges from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1,51,100. Some of the highest-paying posts in the SSC CGL are Income tax inspector, Assistant Enforcement Officer in ED, ASO in MEA, Sub-inspector in CBI, Excise Inspector, Assistant Audit Officer in CAG, Divisional Accountant, etc.

SSC CGL 2023 Selection Process

SSC CGL 2023 Selection Process comprises of multiple stages. The SSC CGL Exam is conducted in two stages: Tier 1 and Tier 2. For a candidate to clear the SSC CGL Exam, we have mentioned below various stages –

  • Tier 1: Computer-Based Examination (objective type questions)
  • Tier 2: Computer-Based Examination (objective-type questions.
    • Tier 2 will include conducting Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III in separate shift(s)/ day(s).
    • Paper-I is compulsory for all the posts whereas Paper-II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
    • Paper-III will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.
    • Paper-I will be conducted in two sessions – Session–I & Session II, on the same day. Session-I will include conducting Section-I, Section-II, and Module-I of Section III. Session II will include conducting Module II of Section III. Therefore, the duration of Session-I will be 2 hours and 15 minutes and the duration of Session II will be 15 minutes only.

SSC CGL 2023 Eligibility Criteria

SSC CGL eligibility criteria have various factors like nationality, age, and educational requirements. Some posts even specify the physical standards. However, the candidates must make sure that they go through the detailed SSC CGL eligibility criteria before they apply for the posts.

SSC CGL Nationality

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria as per nationality mandates a candidate to be a resident of the prescribed countries only. An applicant must fulfil any one of the following conditions:

  • The aspirant must be an Indian citizen.
  • The candidates be a subject of Nepal/Bhutan.
  • The aspirants can also be Tibetan refugees who moved to India, before 1962, with the intention of settling down permanently in India.
  • The applicant must be of Indian Origin who have moved to India from Burma, Pakistan, Uganda, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, Zaire, and Vietnam with the intention of settling down permanently in India.

SSC CGL Educational Qualification

The educational qualifications required for SSC CGL posts differ in some cases. They demand specific subjects and disciplines. Some posts also mention desirable qualifications which give the candidates an edge during the selection.

Basic Qualification: The candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Statistics as one of the subjects from a recognized university or institute. They must have studied Statistics as one of the subjects in all three years or all the 6 semesters of the graduation course.

Post Name: Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer

Basic Qualification: The candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institute

SSC CGL 2023: Apply Online

Candidates have to follow the below-given steps to successfully fill out the SSC CGL application form.

Step 1: SSC CGL Online Registration

  • Visit the official website – ssc.nic.in.
  • Click on “Apply” and then on “CGL”.
  • Enter your Aadhaar Number, Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, and Email ID.
  • Enter the OTPs received on your mobile number and email ID and click on ‘Submit’.
  • Your registration number and password will be sent to you as SMS and e-mail.

Step 2: Upload Scanned Photograph and Signature

  • Upload scanned images of your photograph (not more than three months old from the date of publication of the notice of SSC CGL exam) and signature in the prescribed guidelines.

In addition, the date of clicking the photograph should be clearly printed on the photograph, otherwise, the applications would be rejected. Apart from that, the applications with blurred pictures would also be rejected. Likewise, those with illegible signatures will also be canceled.

Step 3: Fill SSC CGL Application Form

  • Next, fill in your personal, contact, and educational details.
  • Enter your gender, category, nationality, name of the university, roll number, year of passing, marks, and other information.
  • Choose 3 exam centres in the same region in order of your preference.
  • Select whether you are applying for the post of Junior Statistical Officer or Statistical Investigator Grade-II.
  • Read the declaration, check on “I Agree”, fill the captcha code, and submit the form to proceed to fee payment.

Step 4: Pay SSC CGL Application Fees

  • The last step in the application process is to pay the SSC CGL application fee.
  • The application fee is INR 100. Women, SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, and PwD candidates do not have to pay any application fees.
  • It can be paid in both online and offline modes.
  • For offline payment: Generate the offline challan from the website and pay the fees in cash at any SBI Bank branch along with the challan.
  • For online payment: Choose the preferred payment method amongst BHIM UPI, Netbanking, Debit card or Credit Card and enter the banking details in the payment gateway to pay the fees.
  • If the application fees is not successfully deposited with SSC, the status of the application form is displayed as ‘Incomplete’ at the top of the printout of the same.
  • Candidates can also check the status of payment of fees by clicking on the ‘Payment Status’ link on the login page.
  • Application fee, once paid, will not be refunded or adjusted against any other examination under any circumstances.

Tie-Breaker Criteria in SSC CGL

In the event of tie in scores of candidates in Tier-II examination, merit will be decided by applying following criteria, one after another in the given order, till the tie is resolved:

  • Marks scored in Paper-II & Paper-III of Tier-II Examination for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer respectively, if applicable.
  • Marks scored in Section-I of Paper-I of Tier-II Examination.
