The National Eligibility Test (NET) also known as UGC NET is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the posts of an Assistant professor or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) every year. Initially, the test was conducted by CBSE, but in 2018, the National Test Agency (NTA) conducts the NET on behalf of the UGC. For the candidates who are applying for JRF, the upper age limit is 30 years while there is no age limit for the post of Assistant Professor.

CBSE UGC NET Notification 2023

Notification for UGC NET 2023 has been released on December 29, 2022 on the official website of UGC NET. The notification has all the details such as eligibility criteria, exam pattern, exam date, selection process, etc. The exam schedule will be released on the UGC NET website in the month of February.

UGC NET Exam Pattern 2023

Candidates should review the following details about the UGC NET Exam Pattern:

  • Test Mode: The UGC NET exam will be given in an online (computer-based) format.
  • There will be a total of two papers in the exam.
  • Languages: Candidates can take the exam in any language of Hindi or English.
  • Number of Questions: There will be 150 questions in the exam.

UGC NET Educational Qualification 2023

Candidates who are interested in the test are granted UGC NET Qualification 2023. The PG Degree is regarded as being equal to the CA/CS/ICWA. Now, a chartered accountant is qualified to take the NET test. The test is open to candidates who are in their last year of post-graduation. At the time of admission, they must present their diploma.

UGC NET Reservation Policy

The UGC NET is subject to the Government of India's reservation policy as well. According to the reservation policy, 10% of seats are set aside in Central Universities and Institutions that are considered to be Universities for the General-Economically Weaker Section (GEN-EWS), 15% are set aside for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, 7.5% are set aside for the Scheduled Tribe (ST), and 27% are set aside for the Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non Creamy layer (OBC-NCL).

According to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016 (RPwD Act, 2016), each category has 4 (four%) horizontal reservations for PwDs (source-Press Release by UGC).
