UGC NET Syllabus 2023 - Paper 1 and 2 Syllabus PDF

UGC NET Syllabus has 2 papers - Paper-I & Paper-II. The mode of both UGC NET papers is online. The UGC NET Syllabus 2023 is the same for the posts of Assistant Professor and for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). UGC NET Paper 1 is the same for all appearing candidates whereas the Paper 2 syllabus depends on the candidate’s choice of subject. There are a total of 82 subjects from which candidates will be able to choose. As per the latest UGC NET notice, Hindu Studies and Indian Knowledge System are the two subjects that have been newly added now.

UGC NET Syllabus: Paper 1 and Paper 2

The syllabus for UGC NET Paper 1 and Paper 2 varies and is designed to test the different skills of the candidates. A brief about both the papers are

  • UGC NET Paper 1 Syllabus tests the Teaching and Reasoning Ability, Research Aptitude, Comprehension, Divergent Thinking, and General Awareness of the candidate.
  • UGC NET Syllabus 2023 for Paper 1 is based on the subject chosen by the candidate. It tests the candidate’s in-depth knowledge and expertise in the respective subject.

UGC NET Exam Pattern 2023

The UGC NET comprises two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2 which are held consecutively without any break. Candidates are free to devote any amount of time to any paper. However, a total of 3 hours were given to complete both papers.

UGC NET Marking Scheme

The National Testing Agency (NTA) mentions the UGC NET Marking Scheme in the official notification along with the syllabus and exam pattern. The marking scheme of both papers is the same.

  • For both UGC NET Paper 1 and Paper 2, each correct answer will get you two marks.
  • In the revised exam pattern, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • For the unanswered questions, there is no deduction.

From the table above, candidates can understand that in case of wrong answers, the students will not face any deduction in marks. However, the students will not get any score for unanswered questions or for ‘Marked for Review’ questions.

Also, if a question is found to be incorrect, the benefit of marks will be given to only those candidates who attempted the question. However, if NTA drops a question, the benefit will be given to all the candidates.

UGC NET Syllabus 2023: Paper 1

UGC NET Paper 1 is common and compulsory for every candidate. UGC NET Paper 1 will have 50 questions making a total of 100 marks. UGC NET Paper 1 syllabus has 10 units and exactly 5 questions will be asked from each unit. The detailed UGC NET Syllabus for Paper 1 is described below.

Importance of UGC NET Paper 1 Syllabus

The total marks of the UGC NET Exam is 300 marks among which 100 marks are allotted to UGC NET Paper 1. In other words, one-third of the total marks is allocated to UGC NET Paper 1 exam.
